In a tragic incident, a young Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) prosecutor died after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident near Banihal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, police said on Friday.

The accident took place on Thursday, around 3 pm near Banihal railway station, when the car in which the deceased, identified as Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi, was travelling, was hit by a speeding vehicle when he was on his way towards Kashmir from New Delhi.

In a video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media platforms, a speeding vehicle can be seen thrashing Nabi’s vehicle. As per the video, when the Nabi’s vehicle reached near the railway crossing at Banihal, it was hit by a speeding SUV.

Nabi suffered severe injuries in the collision and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and subsequently shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment. However, despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Nabi was a resident of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Aged around 35 years, he had recently cleared the UPSC examination and joined as a Public Prosecutor with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Chandigarh.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and said all necessary procedures are being followed.

Meanwhile, members of the legal fraternity expressed shock and grief over Advocate Nabi’s untimely death, terming it a major loss to the legal community. Colleagues remembered him as a committed professional known for his diligence and legal acumen.
