Megastar Chiranjeevi’s seemingly playful remarks about his desire to have a grandson hasn’t gone down well with his fans who have been slamming him for his sexist undertones in his statements and his plain obsession with a grandson to continue his lineage. Chiranjeevi was recently invited as the Chief Guest at the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam. It was during his attendance at the event that Chiranjeevi said that he felt like he was living in a ladies’ hostel, as the warden. Reason? He is surrounded by women at home.
“When I’m at home, it doesn’t feel like I’m surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I’m a ladies’ hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye…” said Chiranjeevi.

The actor also expressed his fear of his son Ram Charan being blessed with another girl child, “I’m scared that he might have a girl again.” For the unversed, Ram Charan and wife Upasana welcomed a baby girl, Klin Kaara, in June 2023.
Besides son Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela. Both Sreeja and Sushmita have two daughters each – Naviksha and Nivrati, and Samara and Samhitha, respectively.
Chiranjeevi’s comment on his legacy and asking Ram Charan for a male heir has sparked widespread criticism.
A user wrote on X, “He is characterless!!”. Another comment read, “He shouldn’t have spoken in this manner had his daughters be successful in their fields. Have we ever heard, Dr. pratap reddy garu talk like that , it’s because all his daughters are first-generation entrepreneurs. let’s learn to empower our women and then be proud of them”. Next post read, “The post highlights an issue that’s unfortunately still prevalent in 2025. It’s disheartening to see someone of Chiranjeevi’s stature perpetuate outdated gender biases. The obsession with a male heir is not only disappointing but also a reflection of a societal mindset that needs urgent change.”
Chiranjeevi tied the knot with Surekha in 1980.
