Just days after its grand inauguration, the newly opened Siddhivinayak Metro Station on Mumbai Metro Line 3 is witnessing an unexpectedly low footfall, the Free Press Journal reported.
On Wednesday, at around 12:15 PM, Platform No. 1 of the station — which serves trains bound for Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk — appeared almost empty. This comes despite the line being part of one of Mumbai’s most anticipated infrastructure projects and having been launched with much fanfare on May 10.
The high-profile event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. However, more than a week later, commuters seem to be largely absent from several stations along the route, including Siddhivinayak.

Metro Line 3, which currently runs between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Acharya Atre Chowk, spans 9.77 kilometres and is entirely underground. It operates six days a week from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM, and from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM on Sundays. Eight trains run at intervals of just over six minutes, with ticket prices ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 40, depending on the distance travelled.
While the route was expected to ease daily travel in central Mumbai, the slow start raises questions about early accessibility and awareness among commuters.
