The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches at a medical college and an educational institute linked to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara in a money laundering case connected to Kannada film actor Ranya Rao’s gold smuggling case.
The raids by the probe agency were underway at the Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology and the Sri Siddhartha Medical College.
Both colleges are run by a Trust that is owned by Parameshwara’s family.
The searches were conducted after the agency allegedly found a money trail between Ranya Rao and the medical college linked to Parameshwara.
The agency was also scrutinising the financial records of the hospital to gather more evidence.
On May 20, Ranya Rao and co-accused Tarun Kondaru Raju were granted bail by a Special Court for Economic Offences in connection with the gold smuggling case.
The court approved their default bail applications after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) failed to file a charge sheet within the stipulated period.
Rao was arrested on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after arriving from Dubai.
Acting on a tip-off, DRI officials detained her and recovered 14.2 kg of gold bars valued at over Rs 12.56 crore from her.
The investigation in the case is ongoing.
