Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a 35-year-old Kandivali man for allegedly sexually assaulting his two minor daughters, aged 10 and 8 years, for the past six months.
Police pressed stringent charges against the accused father and once convicted, he may face 20 years of imprisonment, the police sources said.
The accused man, who does odd jobs, resides in a chawl in Kandivali (East) with his 30-year-old wife and two minor daughters.
As per the police complaint, whenever the girl’s mother went out to work, the accused closed the door and sexually assault both the girls. He has been abusing the girls since November 2024 and threatened to harm them and their mother if they revealed anything to her. The girls were silent all the while and faced their father’s alleged abuse until Tuesday, when they confided in their mother, who then approached the Samta Nagar police and filed a case, said a police officer.
On the mother’s complaint, the police booked the accused father under sections 65 (rape), 65(2) (rape of a girl under the age of 12), 126(2) (wrongful restrain), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and 10 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
To make the case strong the two minor girls’ statements would be recorded before a magistrate.
“We arrested the accused the same day and are further investigating the case,” said a police inspector from Samta Nagar police station.
