You may have heard the Bollywood line about crossing seven seas for love. In a real-life echo of that sentiment, a cross-continental love story has quietly unfolded in Jharkhand’s capital, where a couple has turned romance into entrepreneurship, and coffee into a cultural connector.

Rupesh, a native of Ranchi, and Suzaina, originally from the United States, have emerged as a new symbol of modern love and partnership. Together, they have launched a cafe that has quickly become one of the city’s most popular hangouts, especially among young people.

Rupesh travelled to the US to pursue studies in the administrative field and was also working there when he met Suzaina. The two dated for nearly two years before tying the knot in 2016. A few years later, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, the couple decided to move back to Ranchi.

Bound by a shared love for coffee, the idea of starting a cafe came naturally. Their aim, they say, was to introduce the city to authentic, original coffee, something they felt was missing from the local scene.

Suzaina says Ranchi is now her home and she feels deeply settled here. What made the transition easier, she adds, was the warmth and friendliness of the people. She credits her supportive mother-in-law and her husband’s constant encouragement for giving her the confidence to move continents without hesitation.

Before meeting Rupesh, Suzaina admits she knew little about Jharkhand. But her trust in him was absolute. Wherever he chose to live, she was ready to follow. Both families, she says, were understanding and supportive of the marriage, leaving no room for conflict or doubt.

Today, Suzaina manages the cafe alongside Rupesh, serving 100% pure Arabica coffee. One of the cafe’s distinguishing features is that coffee beans are crushed in front of customers, ensuring freshness and a distinct, authentic flavour. While the menu also includes cheesecakes and sandwiches, coffee remains the undisputed star.
