The MiG-29 fighter jet had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was heading to Agra for a practice exercise when the accident occured, the defence officials said.

An Indian Air Force pilot ejected ejected himself safely from the MiG-29 fighter jet which crashed into a field and caught fire near Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Monday, said the defence officials.

The aircraft had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was heading to Agra for a practice exercise when the accident took place, they said, adding that a court of inquiry will be ordered into the matter.

The visuals from the site that surfaced on social media showed a crowd gathering near the burning fighter jet in an open field.
