In a bit of shocking news, police have arrested a paedophile with a history of sexual crimes against children for allegedly kidnapping and raping a nine-year-old in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, according to police.
Amit Singh, 35, was out on bail after allegedly kidnapping a seven-year-old girl in Rampur last year and spending nine months in prison. Before that, he was convicted of raping a five-year-old girl in Bareilly in 2013 and sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Bareilly Additional SP Mukesh Chandra Mishra told the Times of India that the suspect, who lives alone after the deaths of his parents and brother, was booked for kidnapping, rape, and under sections of POCSO Act.
On February 20, the girl was attending a wedding in a village under the Bhojipura police station when she was approached by Amit, who offered her snacks and gained her trust.
He then allegedly abducted the girl and took her to the Satellite bus stand before travelling to Milak town. When the girl went missing, her parents filed a complaint the next day.
Upon examining CCTV footage, police identified Amit with the girl and launched a manhunt. He was apprehended on Thursday night and subsequently sent to jail on the following day. During interrogation, Amit reportedly admitted to raping the girl four times.
“People like him are dangerous for society and we will ensure strict punishment for him,” said a senior police officer.
