Dressed in a custom creation by Manish Malhotra, Karan’s look was inspired by the timeless paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. During his appearance on the red carpet, the filmmaker also opened up about his close bond with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who made his own Met Gala debut last year.

In an interaction with the BBC, Karan was asked what it felt like to attend the event a year after Shah Rukh Khan. Speaking emotionally about their friendship and journey together, the filmmaker shared how deeply connected his career has been with SRK over the years. He reflected on how the moment felt especially meaningful because of the actor’s contribution to his life and career.

The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director said, “Well, for me it’s so emotional. Shah Rukh is such a large part of my career repertoire. I’ve done my first five films with him and he’s the reason I stand here today. So for him to have come last year and me this year, it’s like life feels like a complete circle.”
