The Agrawal family has been left shattered by the death of 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agrawal, who was allegedly murdered by murdered by his 20-year-old fiancee, Siya Goyal, and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, at Lohagad Fort in a chilling conspiracy that has shocked the nation.
The tragedy has plunged the family into unimaginable grief, with Ketan’s father reportedly requiring hospitalisation on Thursday due to emotional distress.
As relatives gathered at the family home, grief mixed with anger and a deep sense of betrayal. Family members have now demanded that the case be tried in a fast-track court and that the harshest possible punishment be awarded to everyone involved.
Siya Goyal and Ketan Agrawal, who were engaged in February
“We want justice, not just for Ketan but for society. The guilty should receive exemplary punishment so that no one dares to commit such a cruel and merciless act in the future,” a family member said.
Siya appeared affectionate
According to relatives, the family had initially questioned the haste with which the marriage was being arranged, given accused Siya’s young age. However, repeated assurances from her family eventually convinced them to proceed. Ketan and Siya were engaged in February in the presence of relatives from both sides. Family members said Siya had visited their home several times and appeared affectionate and respectful toward everyone. Ketan’s grandfather, Surendrakumar Agrawal, said, “Whenever she called, she would greet me warmly and speak with great affection. We never sensed anything unusual,” . “Our house has become empty. The dreams we had for our grandson have been destroyed forever.”

‘We trusted Siya’s family’
For the Agrawals, the pain is compounded by the fact that the accused belonged to a family they had known and trusted for decades. “We have known the Goyal family for nearly 50 years. We had family relations with them and trusted them completely,” Ketan’s grandfather told a media person at his residence. He added, “The marriage proposal had come from their side. We never imagined that such a tragedy would befall our family.”
Father’s lament
Ketan’s father, Vishal, broke down while speaking to reporters about the loss of his only son.
“They have taken away my child and my support in my old age,” he said. “If she wanted to end the marriage, she could have simply walked away. Why did they have to kill my son? I will not rest until every person responsible is punished. We never thought those we had known for years could deceive us like this,” he said.
‘Can’t believe it’
“We could not believe it,” Vishal said, “Ketan was sharp, careful, and physically fit. When we visited the spot later, we felt something was wrong. It did not appear to be a place from which he could have accidentally fallen. Nothing can bring our only son back. But those responsible must be punished quickly and severely. Only then will Ketan’s soul find peace, and only then will society receive a message that such crimes will not be tolerated.”
Family cites Ketan’s ‘doubts’
The family said Ketan had occasionally expressed concerns about Siya’s behaviour after the engagement. “He would tell me, ‘Papa, have you made proper inquiries about this girl? She often picks fights over small issues’,” Vishal recalled. “But because we knew the family and trusted their assurances, we did not take his concerns seriously.”
Alleged Lohagad obsession
Family members also stated that Siya had repeatedly insisted on visiting Lohagad Fort. Even after visiting the fort twice earlier, she allegedly persuaded Ketan to accompany her once again on June 18 under the pretext of celebrating her birthday. According to the family, Ketan was initially reluctant to go. They claim Siya even contacted his mother and urged her to convince him. Eventually, Ketan agreed and left home that morning. Within hours, the family received news that he had fallen from the fort.
Key witness
The Pune Rural Police Crime Branch has secured a crucial approver, Neeraj Kumar, an employee at the shop owned by Chaudhary, has reportedly agreed to cooperate with investigators and is currently recording his statement. Police believe his testimony could prove vital in establishing the alleged conspiracy behind Ketan’s death.
The phone
According to investigators, mobile phone records have emerged as one of the most important pieces of evidence. Police claim that on June 18, Chetan left his own mobile phone with Neeraj Kumar for nearly ten hours while carrying Neeraj’s phone to Lohagad Fort in an attempt to conceal his movements. Investigators say Neeraj answered calls received on Chetan’s phone throughout the day, creating the impression that Chetan remained in Pune. However, technical analysis reportedly traced the location of Neeraj’s phone to the fort when the crime allegedly occurred.
Digital evidence
CCTV footage obtained from a Pune cafe allegedly shows Siya and Chetan meeting a day before Ketan’s death. Police are examining whether the hour-long meeting was linked to the alleged conspiracy. The police were also analysing call records, chat messages, internet search histories, and other electronic evidence.
