Man arrested for selling gutka at Ambur railway station


A 27-year-old man was arrested by Ambur town police in Tirupattur for selling gutka in bus terminus and railway station in the area.

Police said the arrested person was identified as S. Rajiv Gandhi, a resident of Mangathoppu near Ambur town. Based on orders of Superintendent of Police V. Shymala Devi, special teams were formed to prevent the sale and transport of banned tobacco and other substances in the district.

Police said that they were alerted about the sale of gutka at Ambur railway station. A team patrolled the station and seized a large bag full of the banned substance from the suspect.

Gandhi told police that he brought a large quantity of gutka from Chittoor to sell in at public places like bus terminus and railway stations. A case was registered and he was lodged at sub-jail in Tirupattur. Further probe is under way.
