The case follows serious allegations made by the woman who accused Ashok Singh, husband of BJP councillor, of raping her at knifepoint about six months ago.

An FIR has been registered against BJP leader Ashok Singh after a video showing him allegedly threatening a woman went viral on social media. The incident took place in Rampur Baghelan area of Satna district in Madhya Pradesh. Police have also recorded the statement of the woman involved.

Singh was arrested on Sunday. He has been taken into custody by the Rampur Baghelan police station. Based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 74, 75(2), 79, 296(1) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case has been filed under charges of issuing death threats and molestation.

According to the police, rape has not been confirmed in the preliminary investigation or in official statements. A video of Ashok Singh had gone viral earlier.

Ashok Singh is the husband of a BJP councillor in the Rampur Baghelan Nagar Parishad. The viral clip has caused widespread anger, as Singh is allegedly seen abusing a police officer and threatening the survivor, while claiming that no action would be taken against him. He has also served as a former councillor from Ward Number One.

Serious allegations by woman

The case follows serious allegations made by the woman, who accused Singh of raping her at knifepoint about six months ago. 

In her written complaint submitted to Satna Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh, she said Singh entered her house, assaulted her, recorded the act on his mobile phone, and threatened to kill her and her family if she spoke about it.

The survivor said she stayed silent due to fear but was again targeted on December 20, when Singh allegedly molested her and repeated his threats. She claimed he demanded that she continue to comply with his wishes or face public humiliation through the release of the video.

Viral video

In the widely shared video, Singh is allegedly heard saying, “What will happen to me? Nothing will happen. Complain wherever you want.” The woman can be heard crying and saying she would approach the police. The clip triggered outrage and renewed attention to the case.

The woman also alleged that Singh regularly comes to her shop, abuses her verbally, and threatens her, creating an atmosphere of fear. She claimed he has a criminal background and had earlier been externed from the district, which she believes made him act without fear of consequences.

Police action

Following the complaint, the Satna SP transferred the investigation to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Trivedi. Police officials said they are verifying the authenticity of the viral video and examining all available evidence.

The survivor has alleged police inaction, saying she approached the authorities five days earlier but no concrete steps were taken. She warned that the police would be responsible if any harm came to her or her family.

So far, no arrest has been officially made.
