Parliament Session Today Live: The chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Jagdambika Pal, on Tuesday defended the central government’s intentions, stating that the aim is to bring a “transparent bill” despite strong opposition from various political parties.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Lok Sabha session, Pal suggested that the protests surrounding the bill were part of a “well-thought-out strategy.”
He specifically criticised the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, which had urged people to wear black bands on Eid yesterday (March31). “Yesterday was a day of worship but All India Muslim Personal Law Board made this a day of politics,” Pal stated.
The government is likely to bring the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 2), and then in the Rajya Sabha. The budget session is scheduled to end on April 4.
