India’s Seema Kaliramna clinched the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday, capping off the finest season of her career with a place on the podium.

The 27-year-old produced a best throw of 58.65m to finish third, adding a Commonwealth Games medal to a season that has already seen her win the National Games gold and the national title.

Meanwhile, Nidhi Rani finished in 4th place with a best of 57.10m.

The medal marked another milestone in Seema’s inspiring journey back to the top after returning to elite competition following motherhood.

Over the past two seasons, Seema has established herself as one of India’s most consistent discus throwers. Earlier this year, she registered a personal best of 59.73m, earned qualification for Glasgow through a string of steady performances, and arrived at the Games in the best form of her career.

Speaking before the Games, Seema had underlined that consistency, rather than chasing one big throw, had been the foundation of her success.

“Discus is an event where consistency matters just as much as distance. Every training session is about improving a little, trusting the process and making sure you can reproduce your best throws when it matters,” she told IIS before the games.

Her rise has been all the more remarkable considering the challenges she has overcome away from the field. Alongside balancing motherhood, Seema is pursuing a PhD, crediting her family and the Inspire Institute of Sport for helping her continue competing at the highest level.

“Returning to competition after becoming a mother taught me to be more patient with myself,” Seema had said ahead of the Games.

“There were days when balancing training, my PhD and family responsibilities felt overwhelming, but every challenge made me mentally stronger.”

That belief paid off in Glasgow as Seema delivered when it mattered most, securing India’s latest athletics medal and completing a journey defined by resilience, patience and persistence.
