HSC exams: 74 cheating cases reported in state

A total of 74 cases of students using unfair means were reported across state during the Maharashtra HSC exams held on February 17, 2025, the officials said on Monday. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education released the data following the morning session examination for Physics and Logic subjects. According to the board’s report, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded the highest number of cases at 57, followed by Pune with 7 cases. Other divisions that reported malpractice cases include Nagpur (2), Mumbai (2), Amravati (3), Nashik (4), and Latur (4). However, Kolhapur and Konkan divisions did not report any cases. Audumbar Ukirde, Deputy Director of the Education Board, stated, “Pune division reported seven cases. A detailed report on the nature of these malpractices, such as how students were caught copying, is yet to be received and will be available tomorrow.” The board has emphasized that strict action will be taken against students found guilty of using unfair means. Five students miss HSC board exam after not receiving their hall tickets

Five students from A.S.S.P.M. International School and Junior College in Thergaon in Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune district, missed their Class 12 Maharashtra State Board examination after failing to receive their hall tickets. Parents of the students have lodged a complaint at Kalewadi Police Station against the head of the institution, alleging negligence and miscommunication during Maharashtra HSC exams. Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Bahirat said that the students, enrolled in the Arts stream for the current academic year, were informed on the morning of the exam that their hall tickets had not been issued due to incomplete documentation.  He stated that this last-minute revelation left students and parents in shock, especially since they had paid approximately Rs 30,000 each in fees. Parents alleged that the college had repeatedly assured them throughout the year that their children would pass, even if they had irregular attendance. On the first day of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) Class 12 examinations Tuesday, the Pune division reported eight cases of cheating. Overall, 42 cheating cases were recorded across Maharashtra, as per MSBSHSE. Audumbar Ukirde, secretary of the Pune Division of MSBSHSE, told The Indian Express that seven of the eight cases in the Pune division were recorded in the Solapur district, while one was recorded in the Ahilyanagar district. Ukirde said no cases of cheating were recorded in the Pune district. Ukirde said these were individual cases of cheating, with students hiding copying materials in their clothing at the exam centre. He mentioned that no mass copying incidents were reported in the Pune division. As many as 15,05,037 students from across the state will appear for the Class 12 Higher Secondary Certificate board examination starting from Tuesday. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will conduct the exam across nine divisions — Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur and Konkan. Of the over 15 lakh students, 7,68,967 students are from science stream, 3,80,410 are from arts, 3,19,439 are from commerce, 31,735 are from the vocational stream, and 4,486 are from ITI stream. While 8,10,348 are male students, 6,94,652 are female and 37 are transgender students who will be appearing for the exam. The exam will be conducted at 3,373 exam centres and will have students from 10,550 colleges. In Pune district, 2,58,034 students will be appearing for the exam, which includes 1,40,221 male, 1,17,807 female, and six transgender students. The district has 432 centres and students from 1,678 colleges. Two married women, who are best friends and students at Abasaheb Atre Night School and Junior College, conquered various challenges with their determination for education and topped their college in the HSC examinations, results of which were declared on Tuesday. Sujata Chavan Dasu, now a 29-year-old, studied up to Class 10 but gave up further education and was married at the age of 17. Two years ago, she decided to take the plunge and complete her HSC-level studies, but with all the responsibilities at home, she chose a night school. A resident of Vadgaon Sheri, she would travel to and from her college in Somwar Peth while listening to the recordings she made of all her lectures in order to save time. Sujata told The Indian Express, “My in-laws were unhappy that I attended school at night, but I kept fighting and attended all my classes. The Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) results were declared amidst much jubilation as Pune, like the rest of Maharashtra, recorded a higher pass percentage than last year. Girls, as usual, outperformed boys in the Pune district with 61,694 girls (95.22 per cent) out of the total 64,786 that appeared passing the examination. On the other hand, 67,066 (91.41 per cent) boys passed out of the 73,366 who sat for the examination. In the Pune district, 1,38,152 students appeared for the exam out of which 17,069 students passed with distinction. The HSC exams were conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) between February 21 and March 23 this year. Maharashtra has been divided into nine divisions — Pune, Nagpur, Chatrapati Shambhaji Nagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur and Konkan — by the MSBSHSE. The exams were organised through these divisional boards. The Pune division comprises Pune, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts.
