On the first day of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) Class 12 examinations Tuesday, the Pune division reported eight cases of cheating. Overall, 42 cheating cases were recorded across Maharashtra, as per MSBSHSE.
Audumbar Ukirde, secretary of the Pune Division of MSBSHSE, told The Indian Express that seven of the eight cases in the Pune division were recorded in the Solapur district, while one was recorded in the Ahilyanagar district. Ukirde said no cases of cheating were recorded in the Pune district.
Ukirde said these were individual cases of cheating, with students hiding copying materials in their clothing at the exam centre. He mentioned that no mass copying incidents were reported in the Pune division.
Out of the 42 cases recorded in the state, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division reported the highest number with 26 cases. This was followed by the Pune division with eight cases, the Nashik division with three cases, and the Nagpur and Amravati divisions with two cases each. The Latur division had one case. The remaining three divisions—Mumbai, Konkan, and Kolhapur—reported no cases of cheating.
Before the examination, the state board launched a campaign promoting “copy-free examinations”. Officials have been instructed to strictly enforce the Maharashtra Prevention Of Malpractices At University, Board And Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982. MSBSHSE also announced that exam centres identified as sensitive would be monitored by drones. If malpractice is detected, those centres will lose their recognition, it said.
