Woman dies after devotees’ boat capsizes in Godavari river in Beed dsitrict

A woman drowned after a boat carrying devotees to a temple capsized in the Godavari river in Maharashtra`s Beed district on Wednesday, an official said.

The incident occurred around 10.30 am in the Golegaon area, he said. The boat was about to head to Purushottampuri, a shrine dedicated to Lord Purushottam, located about 20 km from Majalgaon tehsil.

Devotees travel by boat on the river to reach the temple, the official said. “A boat carrying around 10-15 worshipers was about to start the journey. Most of these people were from the Wahim district of Vidarbha. The boat overturned near the shore, which resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman,” said the official from Majalgaon Rural police station.

A probe into the incident is underway, the official said.
