A 26-year-old employee of Biocon Biologics Limited allegedly died by suicide after falling from the fifth floor of the company building in Bengaluru on Tuesday, police said. The deceased was identified as S Anantha Kumar, a resident of Banashankari.

According to news agency PTI, the incident occurred at around 5 pm. Kumar was reportedly on his phone when he went to the cafeteria terrace on the fifth floor before taking the extreme step.

No suicide note was recovered from the scene, and his body was shifted to a private hospital for a post-mortem.

The exact reason for the incident remains unknown, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

The Times of India reported that Kumar was an engineering graduate and had been working in the finance department of Biocon for the past six months.

His father, Srinath, is a temple priest.

According to the report, Kumar was seen speaking on a mobile phone in the company canteen before he went to the terrace and jumped.

“We did not find a death note,” an investigating officer told the newspaper. The body was declared dead at a hospital, the report added.

Other reports quoted the police as saying that Kumar may have jumped or fallen from the parapet of the office building, and that no death note had been recovered so far.

Authorities have registered a case at the Parappana Agrahara police station and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Biocon issued a statement following Kumar’s death, expressing condolences to the family.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our employees in Bengaluru. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family during this extremely difficult time. As the matter is currently under investigation by the authorities, we are unable to share further details at this stage,” the company said.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to employees who were present at the time to understand the sequence of events.
