MHA forms inter-ministerial team to assess damage caused by rains, floods in Gujarat | India News

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs Sunday constituted an inter-ministerial team to assess the damage caused by the heavy downpour and floods in Gujarat, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.

The MHA in a statement said that the Centre was fully committed to providing all possible help to the flood-affected states under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At least 36 people have died in rain-related incidents since August 25 in Gujarat.

The MHA is also in touch with senior officers in such states, and will depute central teams for the assessment of the damage, officials said.

Heavy and incessant rainfall, especially in central Gujarat districts of Vadodara, Anand and Kheda, as well as Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi and Porbandar in Saurashtra, have led to severe flooding in the state this week.

Festive offer

With one more death reported from Jamnagar on Saturday, the death toll in the flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in seven districts of Saurahstra and Kutch climbed to 27.
