An Air India flight operating from Phuket to Delhi encountered a brief episode of turbulence during its journey on Monday, causing a temporary change in altitude and leaving a small number of passengers and crew members with minor injuries.
The airline said flight AI2379 landed safely at Delhi airport and all passengers and crew members disembarked without further incident.
Air India described the incident as a brief turbulence-related event that resulted in a momentary change in altitude.
“Air India confirms that flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on 4 August, experienced a brief in-flight turbulence-related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude,” an Air India spokesperson said.
“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi and all passengers and crew have safely disembarked,” the spokesperson added.
Passengers with minor injuries shifted for medical evaluation
The airline said there were no reports of serious injuries following the turbulence.
However, a small number of passengers and crew members sustained minor injuries and were taken to a medical facility at the airport for precautionary examination and treatment after the aircraft landed in Delhi.
“There have been no serious injuries as of now. A small number of passengers and crew members with minor injuries requiring medical assessment have been taken to a medical facility at the airport for precautionary examination and care by Air India’s airport team and medical personnel,” the airline stated.
Air India said its airport staff and medical teams immediately extended assistance to those affected and ensured they received the necessary care.
Airline extends support to affected passengers
The airline said it is providing all required support to passengers and crew members involved in the incident.
Air India also confirmed that it is cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation into the turbulence event. The airline did not disclose the exact number of passengers or crew members who sustained minor injuries or provide additional details about the weather conditions that led to the turbulence.
The incident is expected to be reviewed as part of standard aviation safety procedures.
