CISF recovers cash and jewellery left behind by passenger at Ahmedabad airport

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Ahmedabad Airport recovered and returned a passenger’s unattended trolley bag containing Rs 2.97 lakh in cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, officials said on Tuesday.

The baggage was found at the domestic arrivals area of Terminal 1 in the early hours of August 18.

According to the CISF, the passenger had travelled from Delhi to Ahmedabad on IndiGo flight 6E-2013.

After collecting her checked-in baggage from Belt No. 3, she accidentally left her grey trolley bag near the domestic arrival exit at around 12.03 am, officials said.

The CISF personnel spotted the unattended bag during routine surveillance and immediately secured it. The matter was also reported to the Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC) for verification.

Bomb Disposal Squad checks baggage

The CISF Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a detailed security check of the unattended trolley bag, the officials said.

After the baggage was cleared from a security perspective, it was deposited at the Terminal 1 Lost & Found facility for safe custody.

CISF officials later examined the contents of the bag and found several valuable items.

Cash and jewellery found inside bag

According to the CISF, the baggage contained Rs 2,97,400 in Indian currency, one diamond necklace set, one white-metal bangle, one white-and-yellow-metal kada, one white-metal bracelet, one 20-gram yellow-and-white-metal coin, one 20-gram silver coin and two pairs of white-and-yellow-metal earrings.

While the baggage was being deposited at the Lost & Found facility, the passenger arrived with her husband and son and identified it as her property.

After the necessary verification and completion of formalities, the CISF handed over the trolley bag and its contents to the passenger against a receipt.

The handover took place in the presence of the Terminal Manager, BDDS team and CISF Crime Intelligence Wing personnel.

Passenger thanks CISF personnel

The passenger thanked the CISF personnel for their alertness and prompt action in securing the unattended baggage and returning her valuables safely.

The incident highlights the role of airport security personnel in responding quickly to unattended baggage while ensuring that passengers’ belongings are returned after proper verification, said the officials.
