Dhinidhi Desinghu breaks national record, wins Asian Age Group bronze

Indian swimming sensation Dhinidhi Desinghu continued her remarkable rise by setting a new national record in the women’s 400m freestyle while clinching a bronze medal at the Asian Age Group Championships in Thailand.

Competing in the Girls’ 15-16 years category, the 16-year-old clocked 4:21.56 to better her own national record of 4:21.86 by 0.30 seconds. The previous mark was set by Dhinidhi at the 2025 Asian Youth Games.

The latest record adds another milestone to an already impressive year for the Bengaluru swimmer, who has emerged as one of India’s brightest prospects in the pool. Dhinidhi represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics as the country’s youngest athlete and has continued to rewrite the national record books since then.

Another record in a breakthrough season

The 400m freestyle record comes less than a month after Dhinidhi set a new national mark in the women’s 100m freestyle at the Senior National Aquatics Championships, where she clocked 56.57 seconds. She also claimed multiple titles during the competition, further cementing her status as India’s leading female freestyle swimmer.

At the Asian Age Group Championships, Dhinidhi’s record-breaking swim earned her a place on the podium, while compatriot Aditi Satish Hegde narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in 4:21.59.

With two national records to her name this season and another international medal added to her growing collection, Dhinidhi continues to establish herself as one of the country’s most promising young athletes ahead of the major international competitions on the horizon.
