DMK MP A Raja on Sunday had a close call during a public meeting in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai, where strong winds caused the overhead lights to fall near the stage.
The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.
The DMK had organised the event to celebrate Chief Minister MK Stalin’s birthday and the party’s “victory” in the Supreme Court on the Governor bill assent issue. The happy event took a dramatic turn when large lights on steel stands collapsed while Raja was speaking.
Raja was seen dodging and stepping back just in time as the large structure came crashing down on the podium. He managed to narrowly avoid injury in the incident, which fortunately saw no casualties.
After the lights fell, Raja and the other leaders quickly left the stage. Heavy rain soon followed, ripping banners and blowing chairs around, which led the crowd to leave before the event could finish. The meeting was led by the district secretary and MLA Nivedha Murugan, and senior DMK leaders like Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, Siva Meyyanathan, were also present.
