An exorcist from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr was arrested by the Ghaziabad police on Friday for allegedly duping a man of Rs 7 lakh under the pretext of giving him religious advice to make him stress-free, the police said.
According to the victim’s wife, the accused identified as Abdul Rahman had been brain washing her husband, Shrish Ojha, to change his faith and marry another woman.
Ojha was under stress and anxiety after his consultancy firm in Ghaziabad suffered heavy loss in a year, the police said.
On interrogation, Rahman, who worked with local medicines, told the police that the victim Shrish Ojha reached out to him five months ago to get his wife cured of a kidney ailment as she had been on dialysis for over 12 years.
“Rahman, also a practitioner of incantation, said that the victim was stressed and so he advised him to change his religion and marry another woman and allegedly duped him of Rs 7 lakh in a span of five months. He was arrested after the victim’s wife filed a complaint against him,” said Suredra Nath Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad Rural.
“His wife grew suspicious after she heard a voice note where a man was congratulating her husband for becoming the part of a new family,” Tiwari said.
