There is always a lot of hullabaloo around box office numbers of films. Of late, there has been a lot of chitter-chatter around South Indian movies doing wonders at the box office. It was a religious film that grabbed attention of all despite any superstars, action, comedy or drama. Even today, this movie is considered to be one of the best in devotional film genre. We are talking about the movie Jai Santoshi Maa. It was directed by Vijay Sharma. The devotional film released on May 30, 1975. It starred celebs like Kanan Kaushal, Ashish Kumar, Anita Guha and others. Reportedly, the movie was made on a budget of only Rs 25 lakh. But when it released in the theatres, the positive reviews drew audiences and increased footfalls. Audiences flocked the theatres to watch the movie. It had a successful box office run and made around Rs 5 crore as its lifetime collection. Jai Santoshi Maa was the second highest-grossing movie of the year 1975. It stood second after Sholay that starred biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan and others. The same year, Amitabh Bachchan’s Deewar also made it to the theatres. However, the film could not beat the box office collection of Jai Santoshi Maa, as reported by DNA.

The movie Dharmatma that released in 1975 turned out to be the third highest-grossing movie that year. Deewar stood fourth while Sanyasi took the fourth spot.
