The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for five districts in Kerala on Thursday (July 30, 2026) warning of intense heavy rainfall.

Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts were put on the orange alert, while the rest of the State has been placed under yellow alert where isolated heavy rain is expected during the next 24 hours.

The deep depression that lies over Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh is expected to trigger heavy rainfall across the State.

As per the IMD bulletin, heavy rain is likely to continue for two more days in Kerala. An intense heavy rainfall alert has been issued for 11 districts on Friday, except Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram where a yellow alert has been issued.

Similarly, an orange alert has been issued for nine districts on Saturday and a yellow alert for the remaining five districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod.
