Mekedatu: Karnataka to submit a ‘revised’ DPR and not fresh one

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar’s office has clarified that Karnataka has decided to submit a “revised DPR” (Detailed Project Report) to the Centre with respect to the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project and not a “fresh DPR” as reported in these columns on Tuesday.

In a clarification issued on Wednesday, K. Jayaprakash, technical adviser to the Deputy Chief Minister, said, “Since the earlier DPR submitted to CWC on January 18, 2019, was formulated based on the Scheduled Rates of 2018-19 and the same was not taken up for appraisal by CWC due to administrative and legal constraints, and now the path is clear in the light of the Supreme Court’s judgment (November 13, 2025), Karnataka has decided to submit a revised DPR duly updating the cost as per the current Schedule of Rates (2025-26 price level)”.

He further clarified that “There is a need to prepare a revised DPR based on the current Scheduled Rates. Though the earlier DPR is still with CWC, it is yet to be subjected to scrutiny, and was based on the old Scheduled rates i.e., that of 2018-19”.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s office has now made it clear that the DPR had not been rejected.
