The spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was fined by the ICC for breaching the Level 01 code of conduct during the second test against India in Colombo.

He will be the third player to be sanctioned for an incident during the second ICC World Test Championship contest against India in Colombo.

He was officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday after being found guilty of a Level 01 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel.

The incident occurred off the final delivery on day two when Jayasuriya was dismissed by Manav Suthar. He struck his bat on the boundary wedges on his way back to the pavilion.

The offence falls under Article 2.2 of the Code, which relates to the inappropriate use or abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment or fixtures during an international match.

He received an official reprimand and one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. This was Jayasuriya’s first offence in 24 months. The incident occurred after Jayasuriya was dismissed on the final delivery on August 24, when he struck the boundary wedges with his bat on his way back to the pavilion.

Prabath Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft, the match referee.

On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella levelled the charge.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando were fined 25% of their match fees for their involvement in the incident on the opening day of the game. The on-field altercation saw them slapped with a demerit point each as well.

The incident occurred in the 17th over of India’s first innings after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal. The India batter had walked Fernando, and the two exchanged words, after which Fernando moved his head towards Jaiswal. In response, Jaiswal leant in, resulting in their heads making contact.
