Veteran actor Prem Chopra, 90, is recovering well after being hospitalised at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. He is likely to be discharged within the next two days. Earlier, his son-in-law, actor Vikas Bhalla, confirmed that the actor was admitted as a precautionary measure due to his age and will likely be discharged in the next couple of days.

“It’s all age-related, and a regular procedure. There is nothing to worry about,” Vikas told India Today, reassuring Chopra’s fans that the actor is doing fine.

Prem Chopra Stable, Recovering From Heart And Lung Infections

According to Dr Jalil Parker, who is part of the medical team treating him, Prem Chopra was admitted two days ago under his family cardiologist, Dr Nitin Gokhale. “He has a heart issue also, and he also developed a viral infection, lung infection, for which I am also the treating physician in the same team,” the doctor said.

Dr Parker added that the legendary actor is not in the ICU and remains stable. “He is not in the ICU, he is in the wards, and he is not critical. He should be discharged in another 2–3 days,” he confirmed.

A Legendary Career Spanning Six Decades

Known as one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic screen villains, Prem Chopra has worked in more than 380 films. He rose to fame in the 1960s with roles in Woh Kaun Thi?, Upkar, and Do Raaste, and became synonymous with suave villainy in Bollywood. His iconic dialogue — “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra” from Bobby (1973) — remains etched in Indian pop culture.

Prem Chopra’s legacy goes beyond his long career — he was one of the few actors who could make a villain both frightening and likeable. Audiences feared him, yet couldn’t take their eyes off him. Today, he’s remembered as one of Bollywood’s finest character actors, whose work still inspires generations and remains loved by fans of classic Hindi cinema.

Fans and colleagues have been sending prayers and warm wishes as the actor continues his recovery.
