The Pune Forest Division has announced the temporary closure of Sinhagad Fort for tourists on August 1 and 2, 2026, following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the district in Maharashtra.
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure due to continuous heavy rainfall in the Sinhagad region and the increased risk of landslides and rockfalls.
According to the Forest Department, intense rainfall has been reported around the fort area, creating potentially dangerous conditions for visitors.
Considering the threat to public safety, authorities have prohibited tourist movement to Sinhagad Fort and nearby areas during the two-day period.
Officials said the restriction has been imposed to prevent accidents during adverse weather conditions, especially in the hilly terrain surrounding the historic fort.
Forest dept appeals for cooperation
The Forest Department has urged citizens, trekkers and tourists not to plan visits to Sinhagad Fort on August 1 and 2.
Visitors have been requested to cooperate with the administration and strictly follow safety advisories issued during the monsoon period.

Officials have advised people to avoid travelling to hilly locations, landslide-prone zones and areas receiving heavy rainfall until weather conditions improve.
The closure order has been issued by the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune Forest Division, as part of precautionary measures during the ongoing monsoon conditions.
