Masi Magam is observed on the day when the Magam star coincides with the Tamil month of Masi. Devotees believe that taking a holy dip in sacred waters on this day helps cleanse sins and brings divine blessings. In Thanjavur district, the festival is being celebrated prominently in Kumbakonam, with the Adikumbeswarar Temple serving as the focal point of the celebrations. As part of the main ritual, festival idols from several Shiva and Vishnu temples are taken in procession to the Mahamagam Tank for the ceremonial theerthavari.
