Delhi Police recovered a wide range of illegal items during the operation. These included 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives.

Ahead of New Year celebrations, South-East Delhi Police have arrested more than 150 criminals during a large-scale special drive named Operation Aaghat. The operation was carried out to curb crime and strengthen law and order across the district. According to police, the drive involved extensive checking and questioning at several locations.

Over 1,000 people questioned

During the operation, police teams questioned over 1,000 individuals. Many were taken in for verification under preventive measures to stop potential criminal activity. The police said the action was aimed at creating a strong deterrent against organised crime, illegal trade and street-level offences.

A total of 285 accused were arrested under various laws, including the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act. In addition, 504 people were apprehended under preventive action. Police also detained 116 listed bad characters, who were known to have criminal records in the area.

The drive led to the arrest of 10 property offenders and five auto-lifters, dealing a blow to theft-related crimes in the district.

Seizures made

Police recovered a wide range of illegal items during the operation. These included 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives. A total of 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor were seized, along with 6.01 kg of ganja.

From gambling-related activities, police seized Rs 2,30,990 in cash. Officers also recovered 310 mobile phones that had been snatched, robbed or reported lost. In addition, 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler were seized or recovered during the drive.

As part of preventive policing, 1,306 people were rounded up to ensure peace and prevent possible offences. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Hemant Tiwari said the operation was planned to improve public safety and send a clear message that crime will not be tolerated.

Delhi Police said such special drives will continue in the coming weeks.
