In a major escalation of the ongoing aviation crisis, top government sources have told CNN-News18 that the Centre is considering seeking the removal of IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers over the massive disruptions that have plagued the airline for the past three days.

According to senior officials, the government is preparing to impose a heavy, possibly exemplary penalty on IndiGo for the operational meltdown that has triggered widespread delays, cancellations, and passenger chaos across the country.

Flight Operations to Be Cut

Sources said the airline’s flight allotments across multiple sectors will be “culled”. IndiGo will only be permitted to operate as many flights as it can fully staff with a complete crew, amid allegations that the airline has been running an overstretched schedule.

High-Level Meetings Underway

IndiGo officials have been summoned to the Civil Aviation Ministry again, with another meeting scheduled around 6 PM today.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is preparing to brief top officials at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as the situation intensifies and the government weighs major corrective measures.

With passenger grievances mounting and pressure growing on the aviation regulator, more action against the airline is expected soon.
