The Meerut-based Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) announced on Saturday that it will not hold the annual Eid Milan event this year.
The Eid Milan was scheduled to be held on the lawns of the Urdu Department on April 7.
The announcement of the cancellation came following threats from a section of students that if the event were held, then they would also recite the Hanuman Chalisa at the main gate of the university.
Dhirendra Kumar Verma, Registrar, CCSU, said, “A permission has to be sought for holding the Eid Milan, but the university has not got any such request so far. We have decided to avoid the event to avert a possible clash among students on the issue.”
Student leader Vineet Chaprana recently met Vice-Chancellor Sangeeta Shukla and reportedly told her to refrain from holding religion-based events.
“If Eid Milan is justified, why then does the CCSU not hold the Holi Milan on the campus?” said Chaprana.
