India scripted history in the men’s triple jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday as Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu secured silver and bronze respectively, delivering the country’s first-ever double podium in the event.

Praveen finished second with a best jump of 16.58m, while Selva claimed bronze with 16.52m as the Indian duo stayed in medal contention throughout a dramatic final.

Jamaica’s Jordan Scott clinched the gold medal with a best effort of 16.72m.

The final witnessed a remarkable turnaround for the Indians.

After the opening three rounds, Selva occupied the bronze medal position with a best jump of 16.43m, while Praveen was down in fifth after managing 16.31m.

Praveen then produced when it mattered the most.

The Tamil Nadu athlete soared to 16.58m with his fourth attempt to move into the lead temporarily before Scott responded with a championship-winning leap of 16.72m later in the round.

Meanwhile, Selva briefly slipped out of the medal positions after a foul in the fourth round allowed New Zealand’s Ethan Olivier to move ahead.

Facing the prospect of missing out on the podium, Selva responded in style. He produced 16.52m on his fifth attempt to reclaim the bronze medal position, moving ahead of Olivier by just two centimetres.

Neither Indian could improve on their final attempts, but their fifth-round efforts proved enough to secure a memorable double podium for the country.

For Praveen, the silver marked another major international medal after years of establishing himself among India’s leading horizontal jumpers. Selva, meanwhile, celebrated his maiden Commonwealth Games medal with a composed performance under pressure.

The result continued India’s impressive run in athletics at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and underlined the country’s growing strength in the horizontal jumps.

With Praveen and Selva standing together on the podium, India celebrated a landmark moment in Commonwealth Games history, securing its first-ever double podium in the men’s triple jump.
