Pune Porsche crash: ‘Attempts were made to show driver, not teen, was behind wheel of car’, says police chief | Pune News

Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said on Friday that they are investigating reports that attempts were made was made to show that a driver, and not the accused juvenile, was driving the Porsche car that killed two IT engineers at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction around 2.30 am on May 19.

Addressing a press conference in Pune, the police chief said: “An effort was made to show that a driver and not the 17-year-old was driving the car… We are investigating this… It is true that at the start, the driver had said that he was driving the car… We are investigating this part and also checking as to under whose pressure did the driver make the statement.”

He added: “Our investigation clearly shows that the juvenile accused was driving the car. We have collected all the evidence chronologically to prove it.”

Speaking about the blood test to measure alcohol content, he added, “The report of a test conducted to measure alcohol content in the blood of the minor boy is not important for the investigation in the case.”

The two IT engineers were killed after the speeding Porsche driven by a 17-and-a-half-year-old boy in an inebriated state hit their motorcycle.

Festive offer

The police commissioner had said on Thursday that it cannot be said the minor boy committed the offence under the influence of alcohol. “In spite or despite of the blood report, our case is that he (minor boy) was in full senses and was having knowledge that his act of consuming liquor and then driving a car at high speed in a narrow lane can cause deaths of people,” Kumar had said.

While there are allegations that the police caused a delay in the collection of the minor boy’s blood samples, Kumar told reporters, “We have not received the blood report yet. But I repeat that the blood report is not important for us.”

The police claim to have evidence of liquor consumption against the minor boy, which includes CCTV footage and bills from two restaurants where the minor boy, son of a prominent realtor, had been allegedly drinking with his friends before the accident.
