Tahawwur Rana will be lodged in Tihar Jail in the national capital after his extradition from the US.

The Centre has appointed advocate Narender Mann as the Special Public Prosecutor to conduct the trial in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case in which Tahawwur Rana is being extradited from the US. A gazette notification, dated April 9, 2025, was issued on Thursday in this regard.
“The Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), read with sub-section (8) of Section 18 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, hereby appoints Shri Narender Mann, Advocate, as Special Public Prosecutor to conduct the trial of NIA case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI and other connected matters on behalf of the National Investigation Agency before the NIA Special Court, Delhi and the Appellate Courts, for a period of three years from the date of publication of this notification or until the completion of the trial, whichever is earlier,” the notification said.

Rana, a plotter in the Mumbai terror attack case, will land in New Delhi by this afternoon and will likely be lodged in Tihar Jail. He will be produced before the court, and the NIA is likely to seek his custody for interrogation.
