Regarding the initiative taken to boost organ donation in the state, the minister said that the government has provided a fund of Rs 7 crore to SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) for the purpose of IEC (information, education and communication), publicity and dissemination.

“In order to get the hospitals of the state involved in organ donation activity and to ensure maximum organ donation, the hospitals conducting organ donation are provided assistance of up to Rs 50,000 for each case (for medical treatment of a patient till the organ is retrieved after the patient is declared brain-dead). The allocation process for transplant of organs obtained from organ donation in Gujarat is completely transparent. There is no scope for irregularities,” he added.

Talking about the process, Patel said that transplant hospitals, which have been approved by the State Appropriate Authorisation Committee, are provided with login ID and password by SOTTO Gujarat and NOTTO Delhi. Patients who want to get organ transplanted have to contact any of these transplant hospitals to get their names on the organ donation waiting list and get their registration done online on the website of SOTTO and NOTTO.
