Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, has assumed chairmanship of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), an international body having 48 SAIs as its members.
Murmu assumed charge of the 16th Assembly of the ASOSAI, which is going on in the National Capital. The ASOSAI, is an “important” regional group under the umbrella of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), and it was founded in New Delhi in 1979, with only 11 members.
Addressing a press conference after assuming the chairmanship on Wednesday, Murmu said that the ASOSAI’s focus will be on technology-driven audits, and the audit of local bodies, during India’s chair from 2024-2027.
“The 16th ASOSAI Assembly symbolizes a renewed commitment to cooperation and capacity-building among SAIs across Asia. It marks a turning point, with the assembly expected to conclude with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration, which will lay the roadmap for future collaborations and innovations in public audit practices. The leadership of India, as it assumes the chairmanship, promises to focus on technology-driven audits, and the audit of local bodies,” Murmu said.
Murmu said that CAG is working towards developing a ChatGPT-like tool for analyzing the data and writing of its reports.
“We can use this technology to analyze data very quickly and we can use this data to write even reports very quickly. You know, the ChatGPT kind of a thing… your reports can be written very quickly… Now you only have to do just the verification. So, what you require two-three months to write a report, can be done in two-three days,” he said.
Asked whether the CAG has developed its own model, Murmu said, “We are training [the model]. As I said, analytics we are running for data, and also various other things, we are running it. But for writing we have now started. So, we will have to see,” he said.
