Maharashtra witnessed mixed monsoon conditions on Sunday, with moderate rainfall reported in parts of the state, including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), even as daytime temperatures remained above normal at several locations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorms, and rainfall across the state over the coming days.
Mumbai and MMR weather
Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius, which was 1.4 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.2 degrees Celsius, marginally 0.1 degree above normal.
The weather office has forecast partly to generally cloudy skies with thunderstorms, lightning, moderate rainfall in Mumbai and neighbouring districts over the next few days.
Thane and Palghar are also expected to witness thunderstorms, moderate rain and gusty winds, while Raigad and other coastal parts of MMR may experience isolated heavy rainfall during the forecast period.
Temperatures remain above normal across Maharashtra
Brahmapuri in Vidarbha recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 39.3 degrees Celsius, while Mahabaleshwar in the Western Ghats registered the lowest minimum temperature at 18.9 degrees Celsius.
Other notable temperatures recorded across Maharashtra included:
Pune: Maximum 33.0 degrees Celsius (3.3 degrees above normal); minimum 23.8 degrees Celsius (1.0 degree above normal).
Nagpur: Maximum 35.0 degrees Celsius (1.1 degrees above normal).
Kolhapur: Maximum 32.8 degrees Celsius (4.8 degrees above normal).
Malegaon: Maximum 36.2 degrees Celsius (3.4 degrees above normal).
Dahanu: Maximum 35.3 degrees Celsius (3.5 degrees above normal).
According to the IMD, many locations across Central Maharashtra and Konkan recorded above-normal daytime temperatures, while minimum temperatures remained near or slightly above normal in most parts of the state.
Rainfall activity across the state
Kolhapur recorded the highest rainfall in Maharashtra on Sunday with 22 mm, followed by Satara (20 mm), Mahabaleshwar (19 mm) and Solapur (17 mm). Pune city received 11.5 mm of rainfall till the evening.
Moderate rainfall was also reported from Ratnagiri and Beed, which received 7 mm each.
In contrast, several parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada, including Nagpur, Amravati and Aurangabad, remained largely dry or recorded only trace rainfall.
The IMD data also showed that Pune has received 51.7 mm of seasonal rainfall against the normal 139.5 mm, reflecting a rainfall deficit of 87.8 mm so far this monsoon season.
Rain likely to continue
The IMD has forecast more widespread rainfall and thundershowers across Konkan, the Western Maharashtra ghats, Nashik division, and parts of Vidarbha over the next few days.
The weather office has advised residents in low-lying areas to remain alert for waterlogging, while farmers have been urged to take precautions against lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds.
