For residents and institutions owning properties of one kanal and above, who have not yet installed tertiary-treated water connections, will now face a penalty of 7.5 per cent on the total water bill. The decision was taken during the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s General House meeting on Tuesday.
According to the Chandigarh Water Supply Bylaws, 2015, tertiary-treated (TT) water connections are mandatory for owners with properties of one kanal and above.
The Chandigarh civic body has also proposed selling TT water at Rs 7 per kilolitre, a prominent increase from the current rate of Rs 2.50 per kilolitre.
According to the municipal corporation (MC) data, of the 7,385 one-kanal houses, only 2,906 have installed TT water connections. And as far as institutions are concerned, only 150 of the 414 institutions have complied with.
Revised charges for civic services
The House also approved changing the service charges like birth and death certificates.
In case of verification of birth certificates, which was earlier free, will now cost Rs 300. Also, in the present certificates, the first copy will remain free, additional copies will now cost Rs 100 each, up from the current Rs 12.
Adding a name within a year in the certificate, which was earlier free, will now cost Rs 50.
Mobile toilet vans
Now Chandigarh MC will be giving out mobile toilet vans for private events on rent which will be charged Rs 6,500 for events up to 5 km, and Rs 7,000 beyond that. This amount includes Rs 2,000 for security too.
