Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the first operational section of India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will begin services next year, reported the ANI.
Speaking at the HYSEA GCCS & IT Roundtable in Hyderabad, the minister said the Surat-Bilimora stretch will be the first part of the country’s inaugural high-speed rail corridor to become operational.
Vaishnaw said the remaining sections of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor will be opened gradually.
According to the minister, the rollout will continue from Vapi to Surat, followed by Vapi to Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad to Thane, and finally Ahmedabad to Mumbai, the news agency reported.
He said the phased opening will allow different parts of the corridor to become operational as construction progresses.
Construction progressing rapidly
The minister said work on the country’s first bullet train project is advancing at a rapid pace.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor is one of India’s largest infrastructure projects and is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities once fully operational, according to the ANI.
Railway station redevelopment continues
Vaishnaw also provided an update on the Centre’s railway station redevelopment programme under the ‘Nav-Nirmaan’ initiative.
He said 261 railway stations across the country have already been redeveloped, describing the pace of work as unprecedented.
The minister highlighted the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, where construction is continuing while regular train services remain operational, as per the ANI.
He said engineers are building a large air concourse above the platforms without disrupting rail traffic, while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
Hyderabad to become a high-speed rail hub
The Railway Minister said three proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru would transform the city’s connectivity and economy, the ANI reported.
He said the new corridors would integrate regional economies, improve mobility and position Hyderabad as a major high-speed rail hub.
Telangana benefiting from infra investment
Vaishnaw also said that Telangana has benefited significantly from the Centre’s electronics manufacturing schemes, with more than 100 electronics manufacturing companies receiving support.
He added that the Union Government has allocated Rs 5,400 crore for railway projects in Telangana, which is expected to further improve railway infrastructure across the state.
