Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday during a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, reported the ANI.
The protest was organised to demand accountability over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Several Congress leaders and workers were also detained as police moved to disperse the demonstrators.
Police personnel attempted to remove Rahul Gandhi from the protest location and were seen carrying him towards a police vehicle during the detention.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the police action while being taken away, saying that the protesters were not afraid and would continue raising students’ concerns.
The Congress leaders had marched from Rajaji Marg towards Lok Kalyan Marg after accusing authorities of using force against students during earlier protests over examination issues, according to the ANI.

Congress leaders say movement will continue
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said the protest marked the beginning of a larger movement against the government.
He alleged that students had suffered due to examination irregularities and demanded accountability from the Centre.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also criticised the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, saying the party was fighting for students’ rights and seeking a discussion on the issue in Parliament, the news agency reported.
The detentions came after Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh accused Rahul Gandhi of changing his position during discussions with the government.
Singh said government representatives, including him and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, had spoken with Congress leaders after their protest near Akbar Road.
According to Singh, Gandhi initially agreed to end the protest if the government allowed a discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament, but later added the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Opposition demands discussion in Parliament
The Congress protest followed political tensions over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the police response to student demonstrations.
Opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on the issue in Parliament, while the Congress has accused the Central government of failing to address concerns over examination transparency and student safety.
The government has maintained that discussions can take place through parliamentary procedures.
